INGREDIENTS
- 120 g finely ground oats
- 50 g ground walnuts
- 30 g finely chopped walnuts
- 90 g honey
- 1.5 tbsp orange juice
- ½ tbsp olive oil
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp clove
- ¼ tsp nutmeg
- Optional: 1 drop vanilla
- Extra honey & ground walnuts for topping
EQUIPMENT
- Mixing bowl
- Spatula
- Tray or plate
- Baking paper
METHOD
- Add the ground oats, ground walnuts, chopped walnuts, cinnamon, clove and nutmeg to a bowl and mix.
- Add the orange juice and olive oil and mix again.
- Pour in the honey and mix until the mixture becomes soft sticky and moldable.
- Shape the mixture into small oval melomakarona-like pieces using your hands.
- Place them on a tray lined with baking paper and refrigerate for 1 hour to firm up.
- Drizzle with honey and sprinkle with extra ground walnuts before serving.
NOTES
- Texture should be soft and chewy like traditional melomakarona.
- Add more orange juice for stronger citrus aroma.
- Store in an airtight container for 10 days.
